Who is your sporting hero?
Growing up, I preferred watching the men's game for some reason - but
Monica Seles was an idol of mine. Of course she was a great player but
it was her pure determination on the court that I really drew
inspiration from.

What would you be if you weren't a sportswoman?
I have always thought that being an architect would be a really cool
and interesting job. But I would have really liked to work in fashion as
well.
Career highlight?
Winning Wimbledon at 17. I knew what I had achieved was a big deal
but, looking back, I was young and naive and I don't think I totally got
just what it meant.
And the worst moment?
It is always injury. Even when you start playing again and you know you
are not at your best, that is really frustrating. If you work hard
though you always get it back - and it is absolutely always worth it in
the end.

If your house was burning down, what one possession would you save?
This will sound really lame but my mobile phone literally has my entire
diary on it. I wouldn't have a clue what I needed to do or where I
needed to be if I lost it!
Favourite song?
I listen to a lot of music but, if I had to pick one song, it would
probably be Someone Like You by Adele. Everybody knows she has a great
voice but it is those lyrics that really get me.
Favourite TV show?
I much prefer to read to be honest. I actually work reading into my
regular day when I am training. If I do find a show I like I tend to get
the DVD and watch like the whole season in a week.
Stylish: Audrey Hepburn in the 1961 film 'Breakfast At Tiffany's'
Last film you saw?
I started watching Gravity recently. I fell asleep because I was so
tired but it absolutely was not a reflection on the movie, which I was
really enjoying.
Can you cook? Best dish?
I can but I am not a fantastic cook. Russian food is still my favourite
food by far and my mother makes the best Russian dumplings in the
world.
Which three people would you invite to a dinner party?
Are we talking pure fantasy? If we are, then top of that list would be
Audrey Hepburn. She is my absolute style icon and a real inspiration for
me. I would need time to think about the other two guests. But, to be
honest, if Audrey was there I would have literally a million questions
for her.
Star: Sharapova would like Gwyneth Paltrow to play her in a film of her life
In a film of your life, who would YOU like to play you?
I would have to say Gwyneth Paltrow. She is a really great actress - and I also think she is beautiful.
Favourite holiday spot?
It is such a tough question because I have so many favourite places in
the world. I am totally in love with Paris though, especially Le Marais,
which is a great part of the city with some beautiful boutique shops.
Tell us a secret . . .
I have karaoke parties at home and I always choose a Cher song. I am not sure why but my go-to song is Believe.
