In Thursday night’s episode of EastEnders, it was revealed that Max Branning was Lucy Beale’s mystery lover.
Lucy, played by Hetti Bywater, was seen meeting up with Max (Jake Wood) in a hotel room after ditching the birthday celebrations of his daughter Lauren (Jacqueline Jossa).
The plot twist comes as the show gears up for the brutal murder of the young Beale.
Viewers were aware that Lucy was seeing a mystery person, having frequently been sending texts and talking on the phone to someone unknown on the other end of the line.
She then snuck out of Lauren’s party and headed to a hotel room, where she was welcomed by a semi-naked Max who had just got out of the shower.
In a picture from Friday night’s show (April 4), Lucy can be seen embracing her older love who is dressed in a suit while she is still in a robe.
But it won’t end happily for the lovebirds, as Lucy will be killed off to make way for a 10 month whodunit storyline.
