IT HAS to be said, when I first saw Call The Midwife , I thought it was nunsense. The idea of watching prosthetic babies “spring to life” in sunny Poplar, was ludicrous, cringe-worthy and stomach-curdling. So accept the following as a confession. Call The Midwife is now the closest thing we have to a perfect period drama.
