Natasha, 16, complained of headaches. She died after 13 doctors failed to diagnose a brain tumour

A teenage girl died after medics failed to spot that she had a brain tumour – despite seeing her 24 times in the last year of her life.
Natasha Simmonds, 16, was treated by 13 doctors but none of them ordered a crucial MRI scan until it was  too late.
Her mother, Sarah Simmonds, claims that three months before her daughter died, one A&E doctor accused her of ‘putting the symptoms on’ and refused to give her a scan because they were reserved for ‘life and death’ situations.
Natasha, who was studying for a career in childcare, complained of headaches, numbness in her limbs, back pains, vomiting and problems with her eyesight.
But the paediatrician in charge of her care dismissed the symptoms as migraines. Natasha died on January 24, eight days after the tumour was finally discovered. It had twisted around her brain and spine.
Last night, Natasha’s grieving twin, Fiona, accused the health service of ignoring her sister’s complaints. ‘She was seen by so many people and none of them took her seriously,’ she said.
An inquest heard that Natasha, from Radstock in Somerset, had been attending hospital since 2008 and her condition got much worse in 2010.
She was referred to associate specialist paediatrician Colin Downie at Bath’s Royal United Hospital in February 2012, who said she had migraines. Because Natasha seemed to improve between each episode of ill-health, he said her symptoms were not serious enough for an MRI.

In the 11 months that followed, Natasha saw four paediatric doctors, six GPs and three A&E doctors, all of whom failed to diagnose the cancer.
Dr Downie finally ordered an MRI in November, nine months after he first saw the teenager, but the scan did not take place until January and the results were delivered only eight days before Natasha died. The scan showed a rare cancer – a disseminated oligodendroglioma-like leptomeningeal tumour.

Dr Downie told the inquest he regretted not asking for the scan to be carried out urgently.
Natasha was admitted to Frenchay Hospital in Bristol and  had two emergency operations on her brain and spine. She died on January 24, from lung damage caused by the cancer.
At the inquest on September 19, Avon coroner Maria Voisin recorded a narrative verdict, concluding that Natasha had died from natural causes. She said there was no need to make a formal recommendation for changes at the hospital.
But yesterday Mrs Simmonds, 47, told the Mail: ‘We’ll never know what would have happened if she’d been given an MRI scan when we first asked for one.
‘At the very least she wouldn’t have died so suddenly and so frightened.

‘We were so shocked. We’d been told for so long that it was migraines, we never thought it could have been cancer. She knew she was really sick and before her second operation she begged me to take her home so she could die. She spent the last few days of her life terrified.’
Mrs Simmonds, who works as a GP receptionist and is separated from Natasha’s father, Ken, added: ‘She was a beautiful person, unique and one of a kind. I just can’t believe she has gone.
‘I trusted in the medical profession and I feel so angry and let down. I’ve been told lessons have been learned but that doesn’t help when it’s your child that has died.’
A spokesman for the Royal United Hospital Bath NHS Trust said: ‘In the next few weeks many of the clinicians who looked after Natasha will be meeting to discuss this sad case and ensure that any opportunities for learning are not missed.’

Pictured: Ola Jordan steps out looking miserable as it emerges that she was 'bullied' on Strictly Come Dancing

It's been a tough week for 31-year-old dancer Ola Jordan after it was reported that she had been bullied behind the scenes of Strictly Come Dancing.
The Polish star was spotted looking miserable as she left her Liverpool hotel on Thutsday after it was revealed that she left rehearsals for the show in tears and threatened to quit after an explosive row with rival dancer Karen Hauer.
Ola looked decidedly glum as she stepped out in a monochrome ensemble of an animal-pint scarf, black leather jacket, boots and leggings.

She wore her hair in a half-up, half down style and appeared to be wearing little makeup.
Newcomer Karen reportedly snapped at Ola last Monday after the professionals gathered together to practise a group dance for Saturday night's show.
Karen is reported to have said: 'You're a rubbish dancer, Ola. That's why you're always at the back.'

To make matters worse, fellow dancer, Pasha Kovalev is said to have had to hold Karen back from saying anything else as Ola ran from the studio in tears.
The dancer, who is tipped to win the show this year with partner Ashley Taylor Dawson, ran into her husband, James Jordan, telling him that she wasn't 'strong enough' to take such harsh comments.
On Friday, Venezuelan Karen, 31, apologised to the star after BBC bosses called a meeting and the pair are said to have agreed to forgive and forget.

After much thought, Ola decided to remain in the show because she didn't want to let down Ashley or her fans.
A spokesperson for the star told the Sunday People: 'Ola was deeply upset by the incident and has struggled emotionally this week.'
She publicly Tweeted her discontent earlier in the week after her husband wrote: 'What a day,' and she replied 'No babe! What a @&£" week!!!!.'

But things were looking up for Ola when she and Ashley scored an impressive 33 points on Saturday's show, compared to Karen and her partner, Hairy Bikers' Dave Myers who scored 19.
Ola, who has been performing on the show since 2006 is said to have been crying to her friends all week about the row, saying that she can't work out where the attack came from.
But despite this, a source for the BBC1 show has said that the pair have assured production staff that they will not let this argument get in the way of their performances.
MailOnline has directly contacted the BBC Press Office for a comment.

Her number is up! Countdown's Rachel Riley is fifth star to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing... after losing dance off to a very tearful Abbey Clancy

Countdown presenter Rachel Riley was the fifth star to be voted off Strictly Come Dancing, losing the dance-off to the ‘gorgeous’ Abbey Clancy.
She was unanimously given the boot by judges after the head-to-head battle with the model who has been touted as one of this year's main contenders.
Strictly drew its biggest audience of the series so far with an average of 10 million tuning in on Saturday - maintaining its huge lead over ITV rival The X Factor, which drew 7.9 million viewers.

This was the second time Riley found herself in the bottom two with partner Pasha Kovalev.
They performed their American Smooth to Put A Spell On You by Screamin' Jay Hawkins, but it was not enough to save them.
Judges Craig Revel Horwood, Darcey Bussell and Bruno Tonioli all chose to save Clancy, with head judge Len Goodman adding afterwards that he would also have voted the same way.

Looking back at her time on the show, Riley said: 'I haven't cried until now, I have made some amazing friends.
‘I really enjoyed tonight, I really enjoyed yesterday's dance so I'm really pleased to go out on a high.
‘Abbey is just gorgeous, a gorgeous dancer, a gorgeous girl and I have no shame in getting knocked out to her.’

Riley said Clancy has ‘no confidence in herself at all’ and is very nervous every week.
She added: ‘Abbey especially was really upset because we get on really, really well.’
The maths whizz said she has made some friends for life, describing everyone as ‘lovely’.

‘I swapped numbers with lots of contestants and a lot of the dancers. Everyone was so nice,’ she said.
Riley said all she wanted to do throughout the series was to improve, and was pleased with the judges' comments about her performance.
She and Kovalev performed their ‘best dance yet’, according to Goodman.

Revel Horwood welcomed them back into the competition, while Tonioli told Riley she had found her mojo.
The couple scored 30 - their highest score so far.
She now thinks the competition is ‘hard to call’, and said that if Clancy can find herself in the bottom two then it's ‘anybody's call’.

The judges were equally as surprised to see Abbey in the bottom two, with Len saying: 'I can’t quite believe that the audience at home have put you in this position.'
Ahead of the dance off Abbey struggled to hold back the tears, as she said: 'It’s just made me realise how much I don’t want to leave.
'I don’t want to be in it with Rachel as she is my best friend.'

The LACMA 2013 Art+Film Gala honouring Martin Scorsese and David Hockney was a star studded event with a host of celebrities in attendance.

The halter neck black chiffon dress had layers of material which created a loose and flowing feel but the intricate purple beaded detailing across the front drew attention to Rosie's slim waist and of course to the plunging neckline.
But it wasn't just Rosie's cleavage that the daring garment drew attention to as bar a couple of tiny delicate spaghetti straps the dress was completely backless showing off the star's yoga toned figure.
A swathe of chiffon material that was part of the halter neck fell elegantly decorating the stunning model from the rear.

Rosie kept her accessories simple with just a pair of diamond hoop earrings and a black bracelet allowing the dress to take centre stage.
She wore her blonde locks straight and loose and pulled back from her face which was perfectly made-up with subtle bronzer and blush giving her a healthy glow and a slick of black eye liner and sparkling shadow accentuating her blue green eyes.
The model who is known for her perfect pout kept her lipstick fairly low-key with a dewy coral colour.
It appears that Rosie attended the Los Angeles event alone as her actor boyfriend Jason Statham was not spotted.
