BREAKING NEWS: Scandal-hit King Juan Carlos of Spain to abdicate and hand crown to son Felipe - whose ex-TV newsreader wife is now set to become the world's most glamorous queen

King Juan Carlos of Spain is to abdicate after more than 40 years on the throne, handing the crown to his son, Crown Prince Felipe, the country's prime minister has revealed.
The 76-year-old oversaw his country's transition from dictatorship to democracy but has had repeated health problems in recent years and seen his popularity nosedive in the face of a string of corruption scandals and gaffes.
His popularity also dipped following royal scandals, including an elephant-shooting trip he took in the middle of Spain's financial crisis that tarnished the monarch's image.
He is the second European monarch to abdicate in just over a year after Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands handed the throne to her son Prince Willem-Alexander after 33 years in April last year.

'His majesty, King Juan Carlos, has just communicated to me his will to give up the throne - I'm convinced this is the best moment for change,' Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy said in a surprise announcement.

He did not say when Juan Carlos would abdicate because the government must now craft a law creating a legal mechanism for the abdication and for 46-year-old Felipe's assumption of power.
The king came to power in 1975, two days after the death of longtime dictator Francisco Franco.
Known - like his namesake Don Juan - as a prolific lothario, he is even said to have bedded more than 1,500 women, one of whom is rumoured have been Princess Diana.
As a young and energetic statesman, he endeared himself to many Spaniards by putting down an attempted military coup in 1981.

The new king and queen: Prince Felipe married Letizia Ortiz Rocasolano, an award-winning television journalist formerly with CNN, in 2003. Despite the fact she is a divorcee, the public generally approved of Letizia since she represented the modern woman

But as Spain's new democracy matured over the years, the king played a largely figurehead role, travelling the globe as an ambassador for the country, and was a stabilising force in a country with restive, independence-minded regions such as the Basque region and Catalonia.
Juan Carlos has melded the trappings of royalty with down-to-earth, regular-guy charm. The king is an avid sports fan and after the Madrid terror bombings of March 11, 2004, showed he could grieve like anyone else.
At an emotional state funeral for the 191 people killed in the train bombings by Islamic militants, King Juan Carlos and Queen Sofia slowly went row-by-row through Madrid's Almudena Cathedral, clasping the hands of sobbing mourners or kissing them on the cheek.
But his patient work nearly came undone during the financial crisis by the now-infamous elephant shoot in Botswana that resulted in him being removed by conservation group WWF as its honorary president.
King Juan Carlos apologised to the Spanish people for the hunting trip, which only came to light when he was flown home from Africa after breaking a hip.

An online petition calling for his resignation from the WWF post accumulated almost 85,000 signatures by the time he made his public apology.
The controversy prompted Spanish newspapers to publish a photo of the king on a previous safari, in which he is seen standing with a gun beside a dead elephant.
'Although this type of hunting is legal and regulated, many members consider it to be incompatible with the position of honorary patron of an international organisation that aims to protect the environment,' WWF said at the time.
But his monarchy has also been heavily blighted by an investigation into his son-in law, Inaki Urdangarin, has been questioned in connection with a corruption scandal involving claims that he embezzled public funds to organise sports events.

A judge in Palma de Mallorca is expected to decide soon whether to put Urdangarin on trial on charges of embezzling 6 million euros in public funds through his charity.
The 76-year-old king, whose health is failing and has had five operations in two years, including hip replacement surgery, is stepping down for personal reasons, Rajoy said.
Spain does not have a precise law regulating abdication and succession. Rajoy said his cabinet would meet very soon to set out the steps for Prince Felipe to take over as Felipe VI.
The country is just pulling out of a difficult and long recession that has seen faith in politicians, the royal family and other institutions all dwindle.
Felipe, 46, has had an increasingly important role in ceremonial events in the past year and has not been stained by the corruption case involving his sister and her husband.

Juan Carlos was once beloved for his common touch and was seen as much more accessible than the British royals.
In 2012, at the height of Spain's financial crisis, the king fell and broke his hip during an elephant-hunting trip in Botswana. The lavish privately funded safari was secret until his accident and came at a time of particularly harsh public spending cuts.
Sixty-two percent of Spaniards were in favour of the king stepping down, according to a January poll by Sigma Dos. That compared with 45 percent a year earlier. Only 41 percent of those polled had a good or very good opinion of the king.
Felipe has a positive rating of 66 percent and most Spaniards believe the monarchy could recover its prestige if he took the throne, according to the poll.
Felipe married divorced journalist Letizia Ortiz in 2004 and they have two daughters.

The Real Madrid star says he wants to be part of the first team to defend the modern Champions League next season after helping his side to La Decima this term

Real Madrid attacker Gareth Bale has warned he will be "even better" next season after firing his side to the Champions League and Copa del Rey in 2013-14.

After initially struggling for form and fitness following his world-record €100 million move from Tottenham last summer, Bale played a pitoval role in the capital club's triumphs under Carlo Ancelotti last season.

The Wales international scored a brilliant solo goal to clinch the Copa final against Barcelona before heading his side's second in the 4-1 win over Atletico Madrid in Lisbon which brought and end to Madrid's long-awaited 10th European crown.

And Bale has now fired a warning to his side's rivals that he wants to become stronger in his second season in Spain as he looks to help Madrid become the first team to successfully defend the modern Champions League.

"I'm very happy at Real Madrid and next year I'm sure I'll be better," he said during a visit to Indonesia.

"Next year I want to retain the Champions League to become the first team to do so consecutively."

Bale notched an impressive 22 goals and 16 assists in 44 games in all competitions for Madrid last season.

Pregnant Katie Price rushes to hospital amid fears of a miscarriage

Katie Price has undergone hospital tests on her stress levels after fears that the emotional pain caused by her cheating husband could cause her to lose their baby.

The 36-year-old star reunited with her estranged husband Kieran Hayler on Saturday so he could be by her side as doctors checked the health of the unborn child.

According to The Sun's Dan Wootton, Katie is said to have told friends: ‘With this amount of stress I could go into labour or even lose the baby.'

Kim Kardashian arrives in L.A. without Kanye West After honeymoon in Paris

They couldn't keep their hands, or tongues, off each other as they honeymooned in Prague.

But following their European getaway, Kim Kardashian, 33, was seen solo, without her new husband Kanye West, as she arrived in New York City on Sunday, before connecting to a flight home to L.A.

Kanye, 36, is set to headline the X Games in Austin, Texas, but those don't kick off until Thursday, so it's a mystery as to why the hip-hop artist would have parted ways with Kim so soon.

It seems that the pair's trip to Ireland may have gone awry, as sources say they were seldom seen smiling or showing any signs of affection.

Insiders claim the Keeping Up With The Kardashians star was disappointed by her new husband’s idea of the perfect honeymoon in rainy, Ireland and was hoping for a more glam holiday to match her fabulous Italian wedding and chic pre-wedding festivities in France.

Kim was allegedly so bored during the couple's five-night stay that she begged Kanye to leave early, even skipping a pre-planned, one day stop in Dublin.

‘I’ve already seen Dublin,’ she moaned. ‘Can’t we just fly back to the continent!?’

Kim reportedly fell in love with Ireland in 2012, when the Chicago-native was on tour, and even flew in to surprise him for his 35th birthday.

So the Bound 2 hitmaker thought he had made a romantic gesture by planning the trip there and was additionally encouraged by Kim's mum Kris Jenner, who honeymooned there with Bruce Jenner in 1991.

But Kanye appears to skipped the country's special spots which would have made for a more memorable holiday.

‘How the couple ended up in gloomy Portlaoise, is a mystery to me,’ says an Irish source.

‘It consists of flat midlands, working class villages and very little to write home about in the way of touristy sights.

‘Not only did they skip the touristy stuff, they also spent an entire afternoon riding mountain bikes on the muddy and treacherous trails in the Ballyhoura Mountains north of Cork. 

‘And that couldn’t have been very romantic, not with two assistants and two bodyguards in tow!’

A source says that by day four, Kim was so bored with her ho-hum honeymoon that she begged Kanye to fly to Prague, Czech Republic a day early so they could attend a festive Friday night rehearsal party, as well as the Saturday wedding of Kanye’s personal stylist, Renelou Padera. 

‘Kim’s idea of fun is getting dressed up and going to some great restaurants, and shopping till she drops in some of Europe’s most posh boutiques,’ adds the source. ‘Not roughing it in the country.

‘Once they landed in Prague, and Kim had a chance to get decked out in her finest again, she seemed a lot more content.

Indeed, Kim and Kanye appeared charming in their matching all-white ensembles and even put on quite the PDA show during the wedding Saturday.

Eight days after tying the knot in their lavish Italian wedding, Kim and Kanye were heading towards the Prague Václav Havel Airport together Sunday morning, before Kim made her solo arrival into New York City - and later back home in Los Angeles.

Mario Balotelli offered to Arsenal with striker being shopped by AC Milan for £30m

Arsenal have been offered the chance to bring Mario Balotelli back to England.

AC Milan are prepared to sell the 23-year-old to fund an overhaul of their squad and want around £30million.

Balotelli has scored 30 goals in 54 games for Milan but the fallen Italian giants are strapped for cash and are struggling to finance even smaller deals such as Adel Taarabt’s £5m move from QPR.

Milan have grown increasingly frustrated at Balotelli’s erratic behaviour, the kind that infuriated players and staff alike at Manchester City, with his mood swings evident during TV interviews and touchline strops.

They are keen to offer him to clubs around Europe with Monaco the favourites.

Manchester City have a buy-back option but are unlikely to take that up, yet other English clubs have been asked to consider bidding and Arsenal are among them.

Arsene Wenger seems likely to pursue interest in QPR striker Loic Remy and head off interest from Tottenham, but is looking at other options too and has considered Bayern Munich’s Mario Mandzukic, Real Madrid’s Karim Benzema and Alvaro Morata, plus Rodrigo of Benfica.

Arsenal appear to be edging ever closer to securing an early replacement for Bacary Sagna, with Toulouse right-back Serge Aurier struggling to keep things under wraps.
Sagna confirmed last week that he was leaving the club, giving Arsene Wenger an easy starting point for his summer recruitment.
Aurier has been linked with a £7.5m switch for some time, and when posing with a Gunners fan on film, seemed to confirm that he was on his way to the Premier League.
The Youtube clip, entitled 'Serge Aurier tells Arsenal fan he is going to Arsenal' shows Twitter account holder @Kandzet with the star, and was also retweeted by Aurier's official account.
The 21-year-old was warming up for the Ivory Coast's World Cup warm-up with Bosnia-Herzegovina when he spoke to the onlooker.
The transfer window only opened on Sunday and while Arsenal are expected to spend big to compete for the title, Wenger had admitted he didn't expect to conduct much business until after the World Cup.
But Sagna's announcement may have pushed the French boss into action, with Aurier's stock sure to rise in Brazil this summer. He was also named in Ligue 1's Team of the Year of last season, further boosting his reputation.
Atsuto Uchida and Callum Chambers were also thought to be on the club's radar to compete with Carl Jenkinson for the full-back slot, but the self-confessed Arsenal fan has leapfrogged the duo.
He talked up the move in May, telling Eurosport France: 'I’ve never prioritised a club in England as even the promoted clubs are respectable. I will privilege the one that will show the most interest in me, that will give me the most game time. After that, you can’t really say no to Arsenal.
'It’s a club with history, with a French manager, who has welcomed many Francophones. Plus, Arsenal are always thereabouts when it comes to trophies and a club that plays in the Champions League.'
Aurier has also taken pictures of himself wearing an Gunners shirt in the past, and retweeted other articles and blogs relating to a summer switch to the Emirates Stadium.

Arsenal say NO to Fabregas return! Wenger will snub chance to re-sign former captain as Liverpool and Chelsea plot move for £30m Barca misfit

Arsenal have turned down the chance to sign Cesc Fabregas even though the player is available for £30million.

Fabregas, who was in London to film a Beats by Dre advert this weekend, is keen to return to England and has attracted interest from Liverpool and Chelsea.

Barcelona are willing to sell the player for £30m and are contractually obliged to let Arsenal match any bid they receive.

But it is understood that, with Mesut Ozil and Santi Cazorla already in the squad, Arsenal priorities are elsewhere, notably in strengthening up front.

They are searching for a defensive midfielder, with Mikel Arteta in the final year of his contract, and are ready to move for Sven Bender, the Borussia Dortmund player.

Fabregas is disappointed not to have the opportunity to move back to the club where he was captain and left in 2011.

He maintains a good relationship with manager Arsene Wenger but there is a mutual understanding that now is not the right time to return, given the amount of creative midfielders Arsenal have.

Swap your black jacket for Kim's bright white Balmain blazer

We can't quite believe we're going to say this, but could it be that Kim Kardashian is finally relinquishing her beloved crop top and pencil skirt combos?
For her most recent outings, she's been going between that Balmain black leather blazer and some of their ultra decadent dresses. Kim is a big Balmain fan and this white blazer is also by the super-duper high end label. She definitely goes through fashion phases!
