Their characters are often embroiled in dramatic storylines which controversial scenes.
But
Jennifer Metcalfe, Jorgie Porter and Jacqueline Jossa were clearly
ready for some good, clean fun at the British Soap Awards on Saturday.
The women led the way in show-stopping, floor-length dresses which wowed fans at the Hackney Empire in East London.
She's well red: Jennifer Metcalfe strikes a pose at the British Soap Awards
Jennifer, who plays Mercedes McQueen in Hollyoaks, stunned in a fitted red dress with leopard-print shoes
Jennifer, who plays Mercedes McQueen in Hollyoaks, stunned in a fitted red dress which she wore with leopard-print shoes.
Flaunting
a cut-out back and crop-top effect, her hair was worn in a cascade of
waves while she matched her look with a flash of red lipstick.
She also sported another must-have accessory: a tan.
Dressed to impress: Jorgie Porter turned heads in her flowing silk gown
Dramatic: Jacqueline Jossa revealed plenty of flesh ion her sheer-topped dress
Golden girl: Brooke Vincent opted for a Grecian-esque dress with bed-head hair
She kept her hair smooth and sleek while wearing a contrast dress featuring a sheer panel with peacock-effect feathers. The choice was a daring one for the London-born 21 year-old, who showcased plenty of skin without looking brash.
Meanwhile, Jorgie Porter cut a stylish figure in a stunning silk gown which - literally - turned heads.
His and hers: Marvin and Rochelle Humes arrive in matching style
The same, but different: Tamara Wall and Anna Passey both wore high-neck, sleeveless gowns
The future's bright: Jazmine Franks was tan-tastic on the red carpet
They weren't the only glamorous faces to appear on the red carpet, however. Marvin and Rochelle Humes were sartorially in sync with their jet-black evening wear, which was both flattering and fetching.
Tamara Wall and Anna Passey both stunned in similar red and blue silk dresses, while Jazmine Franks opted for a more Grecian affair. She capped it off with suitably-styled hair in a messy 'up' do.
However, not everybody looked quite so demure. Former Coronation Street and Heartbeat performer Nikki Sanderson seemed to over-do it in a pink ruffled dress.
Ambitious dress: Nikki Sanderson looked more like Katie Price
Pretty in pink? Nikki Sanderson looked beautiful - but no thanks to her camp dress
Handsome: Jeremy Sheffield and Nikki Sanderson posed together at the Hackney Empire
Featuring a raised hemline at the front and a bodice top, it left little to the imagination and was reminiscent of something Katie Price would wear.
Naturally, she matched it with strappy heels for maximum effect.
Thankfully, Michelle Keegan did not disappoint. She wore a black and white suit and looked stunning on the arm of TOWIE star Mark Wright.
Wow! Michelle Keegan was a far cry away from her on-screen character Tina McIntyre
Monochrome: Michelle Keegan and Mark Wright make a stunning couple at the annual awards
Somebody else who got it right on the fashion front was former This Life actress Luisa Bradshaw-White. She channeled the look of a classic fifties film star as she wore a metallic dress with capped shoulders and simple heels.
With subtle make-up and a demure hair style, she was one of the more immaculately dressed.
Black tie: Luisa Bradshaw-White and Amanda Clapham both went for darker looks
Peachy! Catherine Tyldesley arriving in style for the 2014 British Soap Awards
She's still got it: Helen Worth was beautiful in her silver dress, while Natalie Cassidy went for bold blue
Emmerdale: (Left to Right) Maddy Hill, Kellie
Bright, Danny Dyer, Sam Strike and Danny-Boy Hatchard arriving for the
2014 British Soap Awards
Still got the X factor: Singer Sam Bailey displays her baby bump while Tisha Merry looked simply fabulous
Selfie-esteem: James Forde & Danny Dyer pose together in their suits
On the road: Brooke Vincent shares a private snap of her journey to Hackney

Bosom buddies: Georgia May Foote
and her pal get close for a shot
Following a different year, actor William Roach was clearly delighted to be back in work mode - and celebrating the success of his long-running character.
Coronation Street is up for several awards, including Best Storyline and Best On-Screen Couple.
Meanwhile, Nick and David's car crash is also up for storyline of the year.
Handsome duo: Eastenders actor Jamie Lomas and his guest Chloe Peers
Embroidered: Anna Acton and Debbie Rush's dresses featured floral patterns in their own unique way
Following a difficult year, William Roache looked relaxed on the red carpet
Glamour! Rebecca Scroggs and Charlie Brooks - who plays Janine in Eastenders - were also style successes
Bold fashion statements: Jamie Borthwick (left) and Lorna Fitzgerald with Diane Parish and dam Woodyatt
Sophie Austin (left) looked classy but Charlie Clapham wore some dodgy shoes at the Hackney Empire, London
Bright young things: Stephanie Davis and Modupe Adeyeye were floor-length fans
Perhaps the cast of the show were afforded special style advisers as Brooke Vincent also looked impressive in her gold and white dress.
Debbie Rush didn't let the side down either in a damask black dress with gold shoes.
Stylish: Julie Hesmondhalgh looked young and trendy in her lace and velvet dress
Stylish: Actresses Anna Mitchell and Jessica Ellis wore their trademark looks with aplomb
Pretty in pink: Jessica Fox looked glamorous in her floor-length dress
Different looks: Hollyoaks actress Stephanie Waring and Gemma Bissix
Hosted by Philip Schofield, the awards will take place tonight but be screened on ITV Sunday evening at 8.15pm. The accolades are bestowed on a combination of public voting and panel decisions.
Last year's biggest winner was Coronation Street, with eight awards.
elegant: Mandip Gill kept it timeless in a jewel-encrusted gown
Not so classic: Kristian Kiehling wore a velvet jacket while Nitin Ganatra arrived in a shiny black suit
Ashley Taylor Dawson, Andrew Moss and David Kennedy arriving for the British Soap Awards at the Hackney Empire, London
Looking smart: Charlie Wernham and John Omole were didn't let the boys down either
Handsome: Aaron Fontaine looked very dapper in his blue suit with pink detail
